Plain Steel

Plain Steel is also referred to as black and is raw, uncoated steel.

Hot-Dip Galvanizing

Hot-Dip Galvanizing is the process of dipping fabricated steel into a kettle or baskets containing 840 degree molten zinc. The steel is fully submerged into the zinc for a certain amount of time depending on the diameter of material, grade of steel, and other factors. During this process the zinc will metallurgically bond to the steel to form an alloy coating that provides corrosion protection to the steel.

Zinc Plating

Zinc Plating is a much different coating in comparison to hot-dip galvanizing. Zinc plating is an electroplating process where the zinc is applied to the steel by using electricity. This coating is thin and can be nicked easily making it not suitable for outdoor use. Zinc Plating is more aesthetically appealing than Hot-Dip Galvanized because of the brightness and color. Zinc Plating can come in clear (Shiny Silver), Yellow and Black.
